Buraco offline

The game has an offline mode: a full hand of cards against the computer, with no connection and no adverts. Buraco is the Brazilian branch of the canasta family. Playing with other people is the part that still needs the internet.

Before you sit down: the game still opens in Portuguese. The rules are the same and the table reads without much text, but we would rather say it now than after you arrive. English is written and waiting to be published.

What you can play with no connection

A whole game against the computer. Eleven cards go to each player and two face-down mortos of eleven stay on the table. You draw, you meld, you build canastras and you go out, exactly as at any other table.

The rules do not change because you are offline. The values are the usual ones: the ace is 15, the two is 10, three to seven are 5, and eight to king are 10. A joker, in the variants dealt with them, is 50. A dirty canastra, a meld of seven cards or more, scores 100, and a clean one scores 200. Going out adds 100. Your first game is played to 1500 points, and you can also set 1000, 2000 or 3000.

What needs a connection

Everything with another person in it. Public tables with real players, and private tables with an invite code, need a connection so that each play reaches the other side of the table.

When it is worth it

When the signal drops, on a journey, or in a stretch of the day with no data. It is also the quiet way to practise: against the computer you can start another hand whenever you like, without depending on other people being free at that hour.
