Buraco with two players
The rules do not change. Eleven cards each, two mortos, the same two decks. What goes away is the partnership, and that changes how a hand feels more than it changes how it is scored.
Before you sit down: the game still opens in Portuguese. The rules are the same and the table reads without much text, but we would rather say it now than after you arrive. English is written and waiting to be published.
The short answer
Deal eleven cards to each player and set aside two face-down mortos of eleven. Everything else runs as usual: draw, meld, discard, take a morto when you run out, and go out once you hold a clean canastra.
What actually changes
Two things, and neither is in the rulebook. The discard pile moves faster, because two hands feed it instead of four, so what you throw comes back around sooner. And there is nobody to read: half the information in a four-handed game comes from watching what your partner keeps, and two-handed that half is simply gone.
The scoring is untouched. Clean canastra 200, dirty 100, going out 100, and cards left in hand still count against you. A side that never takes its morto loses 100.
And on Jogada?
Our table is the classic one: four seats, in two pairs. There is no two-seat mode, and we would rather say so than let you find out after signing in.
If you are two and want to play together, open a private table and share the link. You both sit at the same table, on the same side or facing each other, and the seats nobody claims get filled so the hand can start.
If what you want is practice on your own, the game against the computer is the closer fit.
